Cuisinart Resort and Spa is located in Anguilla, British
West Indies. Cuisinart Resort and Spa is a high end resort
and spa located on the southwestern side of the Island
off Rendezvoux Bay. The resort is a culinary resort which
utilizes the plants grown within the landscape for the
cooking classes and overall support of the resort. The
site is approximately 14.4 acres and contains a 17,000
s.f. hydroponic greenhouse, ribbons of colorful planting,
a beach bar, linear negative edge pool, orchard and herb
garden, bocce courts, tennis courts, croquet field and
a playground. The project included researching historical
and cultural issues, Italian and English romantic landscape
design, botanical gardens, environmental issues including
major coastal ecosystems, water resources, sewage, landscape
vegetation, coastal ecology, artificial marine habitats,
and aquaculture, regional architecture, greenhouse, and
ecotourism. The team produced a predesign research document
as well as schematic and design development drawings.
The landscape design included the use of xeriscape principals
including low water use plant choices and limited irrigation.
The team was awarded a National American Society of Landscape
Architects – “Distinguished Graduate Team Research” award
for the project.
This work was conducted by Tejido Design Group (University of Arizona) under the direction of Dr. Mark Frederickson – University of Arizona and Caryl Clement. The team consisted of: Penny Batelli, August Benzien, Chad Cecil, Caryl Clement, Gina Garcia, Faye I. Samson, Matt Shawaker, Michal G. Tincup, Greg Wehrs and Todd Wenskoski.
