The Ennis Residence #1 is a private residence located in Ennis, Texas. The residence is located within a mature neighborhood and on the Ennis Country Club Golf Course – one of the oldest country clubs in Texas, founded in 1919. The client wanted an outdoor gazebo for small dinner parties of four. The challenge was to design a gazebo that would withstand any golf balls that may land on their yard. The final gazebo design was complimentary of their existing architecture and it accommodated a ceiling fan as well as space for a television. It also contained retractable shade cloth that could aid in the deflection of golf balls while providing a more enclosed and private space. The gazebo was framed by low flowering shrubs and perennials as well as a water feature directly adjacent to the opening of the gazebo. The space is accessed by irregularly shaped flagstone surrounded by mondo grass. Boxwoods, mealy blue sage, daylily, and holly fern are just a few of the plantings.
