The Dallas Residence #1 is a private residence located in Dallas, Texas. The residence is located on the northeastern side of Dallas and sits within a mature neighborhood. The client requested a design for their courtyard space, which is accessed from their primary living and entertaining space and is highly visible. The challenge was to incorporate a variety of plant materials within a small space while also accommodating an area for seating as well as a water feature. The landscape architect worked closely with the client, who was also an interior designer, to develop the space. The final design included a flagstone patio large enough to accommodate two lounge chairs and a table. The patio was framed by a series of four symmetrical water features with a backdrop of vines along the courtyard walls. The inclusion of a dwarf Japanese maple added structure while in keeping with the scale of the space. The plant materials included Encore Azaleas within the spaces that benefited from dappled shade. The landscape architect included more perennials and groundcovers to add color and structure. The planting design responded to the existing architecture.
