Texas Spine and Joint Hospital is located in Tyler, Texas.
Texas Spine and Joint Hospital specializes in the treatment
of spine, neurosurgical and orthopedic patients. The hospital
is surrounded by businesses and is adjacent to a mature
neighborhood. The project included developing schematic
designs through construction documents. The challenge
was providing a significant amount of color within the
planting while also focusing on the need for a low maintenance
landscape. The landscape architect focused on year round
color as well as adding detailed planting to the edges
of the property to accent the mature Live Oak trees. The
edges of the planting areas were accented by river rock
gravel for a smooth transition between planting and lawn.
This was an interesting addition rather than just using
a steel edging treatment. River Birch shade trees and
flowering Crape Myrtles were placed around the site for
added structure and color. Contrasting plantings of silvery
sunproof liriope and big blue liriope provided a striking
landscape treatment. Maintaining a design that responded
to the overall budget of the hospital was also critical.
This project was performed with Melton Landscape, Inc.
of Tyler, Texas.
