Dallas, Texas
The Caruth Homeplace is a plantation estate located in
Dallas, Texas. The Caruth Homeplace consists of approximately
5 acres and contains a formal tree lined drive, the main
house, a family cemetery and several “outbuildings.” The
original plantation was founded in 1852 and contained
5,000 acres. The landscape architect produced a Cultural
Landscape Report, which accompanied the Historic Structures
Report produced by Herndon Stauch Architects. The challenge
of the project was to restore the landscape to its 1938
period of significance which corresponded to the renovation
of the main house while maintaining the character and
privacy of the surrounding neighborhoods. The 1938 landscape
master plan includes the original Fruit Orchard, Parterre
Garden, Rose Garden, Windmill and Smokehouse. This work
was conducted while employed with TBG Partners under the
direction of Earl Broussard.
