Southwest Corporate Federal Credit Union (SWCFCU) is located
in Plano, Texas. SWCFCU is located within Legacy Business
Park. This is the corporate headquarters for the second
largest credit union in the United States. The project
included the development of drawings for the city submittal
and approval process as well as schematic through construction
documents. The landscape architect worked closely with
the client and architect to develop a design that focused
on providing a strong entry statement as well as intimate
private spaces. The entry design included the use of decorative
walls and columns that featured stone used on the buildings.
The grade that was retained by the use of these walls
was planted with a large area of love grass. Contrasting
integral colored concrete with stamped patterns was used
at the entry. This paving pattern extended into the drive-lane
using gray concrete with a heavy sandblast. The area between
the main building and the parking garage contained a café
space, secondary seating area, and a large water feature.
The café space was designed to contain forty people seated
at circular tables. The paving for the café space was
paved with bricks, which will be engraved through SWCFCU’s
“buy a brick” program honoring company employees or their
family and friends. The café space was enhanced by designing
a space for planting within the café plaza. This provided
a green accent within an otherwise large paving area.
The secondary plaza space was located to the east of the
café space and provided a smaller area for dining or gathering.
The water feature was sited to take advantage of cars
entering the site from Democracy Boulevard. The water
feature was a 5’ tall stacked-stone feature with water
bubbling from the top and spilling into a basin covered
in gravel. Seating as well as trash receptacles was placed
around these areas. The entry between the garage and main
building was accented by the use of the prolifically blooming
encore azaleas. A variety of plant materials were used
within these spaces to provide a more intimate appearance.
This work was conducted while employed with TBG Partners
under the design and direction of Jim Manskey.
