Railport Industrial Park is located in Midlothian, Texas. Railport is a 1700-acre industrial park developed by TXI’s real estate division. The project consisted of a large entry feature and 1.5 miles of streetscape design. The budget for the phase one development (entry) was $990,000. The challenge of the project was to create an entry that was large enough to compliment the wide-open spaces and not be dwarfed by the large industrial buildings on site and the trucks entering the site from Highway 67. To respond to this challenge, the landscape architect designed a 170-foot long entry wall that graduated in height from five feet to a total of fifteen feet in height. The wall is accented by a single band of blue fiber optic lighting along the top edge of the wall. This lighting can be seen from the adjacent highway and stands out as a unique distinguishing feature. The entry planting includes large bands of gravel alternating with Texas sage and red yucca. These bands of planting correspond to wide bands of red colored concrete. A grid of live oak trees flanks the entry. The streetscape planting includes evergreen trees as well as large berms providing a grade separation between Railport Boulevard and the different business sites. This work was conducted while employed with TBG Partners under the direction of Jim Manskey.
