First Command Financial Planning is located in Fort Worth,
Texas. First Command is a financial planning corporation
devoted to American military professionals. The corporate
headquarters is located in southern Fort Worth off Hulen
Drive. The project included developing an entry statement
for their new building as well as enhancing their current
courtyard space. The challenge was to utilize elements
of the existing courtyard space (plant materials, hardscape
materials, lighting, etc.) in the design while still providing
a new and unique experience. The landscape architects
developed a planting design that wrapped around the entire
building and connected the front of the building to the
courtyard space. The same existing column materials were
also proposed for the site. The courtyard space included
individual private areas (or café type spaces) for seating
for the First Command employees. The central section of
the courtyard contained a large flush bowl water feature
with a large “memorial” stone in the center. The landscape
architect provided schematic, design development and construction
drawings as well as cost estimates for the client. This
work was conducted while employed with TBG Partners under
the direction of Jim Manskey.
