City of Dallas Police Station

City of Dallas Police Station

The proposed South Central Police Sub Station for the City of Dallas is located in the southern portion of Dallas. Studio Tincup worked with Perkins & Will Architects to develop the landscape plan. This project is a LEED Accredited project and therefore includes many elements of low water use and responsible environmental design. The current plan includes the use of large bio-swale medians in the parking lots in order to capture runoff from the surface parking and use it for irrigation.

Also, low water use and native plant materials will be used throughout the site including buffalo grass, native grasses and a variety of decorative gravels. The irrigation system will consist primarily of drip irrigation to reduce the chances of wasteful overspray and reduce the overall use of water on the site.

The design includes a formal entry with a detention pond sculpted with levels of native grasses and a formal grid of ornamental trees. The landscape plan also calls for the preservation of three very large mature pecan trees on site. A small, informal seating area will be placed within the pecans and will be constructed of decomposed granite and limestone slab seating areas with planting. A garden promenade running the length of the parking lot connects the entire site to the rear of the building.
